‘Animal House: The Musical’ Coming to Broadway; Scored by Barenaked Ladies

Monday was the 30th anniversary of John Belushi’s death. This comes at the same time one of his most famous movies roles will be put on the Great White Way!

Belushi played Bluto Blutarsky in the 1978 film National Lampoon’s Animal House. On Monday, Universal announced they would be taking this film to the Broadway stage in the form of a musical.

The musical score for this production will be provided by Canadian rock group Barenaked Ladies. I think this is a great fit for the show, considering the film is one of the most legendary college party movies and the Barenaked Ladies music fits perfectly in that realm.

Universal Pictures Stage Productions and producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and James L. Nederlander made the announcement, reports Broadway World. Matty Simons, the founder of National Lampoon, will act as executive producer.

Casey Nicholaw, director of The Book of Mormon and Spamalot, will act as director and choreographer of the show. There has not been any news on casting of the show or when it will hit the Broadway stage.

Are you excited for Animal House: The Musical??? Who do you think would make a good Bluto Blutarsky???
