Target isn’t the only one taking a stand against Beyoncé!
Amazon has now followed in the footsteps of Target, with both retailers refusing to sell physical copies of Beyoncé’s self-titled fifth studio album.
Amazon, however, isn’t refusing to sell digital copies of the album. They are also allowing third-party sellers to offer the physical version of it. According to Billboard, Beyoncé is not featured on the website and is only “visible of shoppers search for it and will see that the album is there.”
Beyoncé was released exclusively through iTunes until December 20, where physical copies would be sent to retailers. This was done in order to prevent a leak of the album. Despite Target and Amazon’s decisions not to sell physical copies of the album, Sony and Columbia Records reportedly shipped out 500,000 units.
This just goes to show that Beyoncé truly is the Queen!
The singer released her fifth studio album, Beyoncé, on Friday December 13, surprising everyone! She released the album with no advance notice to anyone (except about 20 people at her record label) and absolutely no advance promotion. The album was released exclusively to iTunes and will be available through all retailers on December 20. Within the first three hours of the album’s release, 80,000 copies were sold.
The first three hours of sales were extremely impressive, but the first three days of sales saw over 550,000 copies sold! This gives Beyoncé the biggest debut by a female this year. Billboard reports that the album sold 430,000 copies on Friday and an additional 120,000 the next day. Beyoncé is obviously projected to take the No. 1 spot on the album charts this week. Can you imagine the numbers she could have pulled if she released the album on a Tuesday?!
Beyoncé will be the singer’s fifth consecutive No. 1 debut and the largest debut of her career.
Beyoncé surprised everyone by releasing her self-titled fifth studio album on Friday at midnight!
The singer dropped the album exclusively on iTunes with no advance notice to anyone and more importantly without the months of promotion that pretty much every single artist does before an album release. And she did it because she’s Beyoncé and she can!
The album is being called a “visual experience,” with 14 new tracks and 17 videos. Each new song has an accompanying video, plus there is an additional three videos, making the album a 31 song track list. The album includes big name collaborations like her hubby Jay Z, former Destiny’s Child pals Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, Drake, Frank Ocean, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell.
Beyoncé posted a video on Instagram and on Facebook. In the video Beyoncé said:
“I see music as more than just what I hear. When I’m connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies and they’re all connected to the music. And I think that’s one of the reasons why I wanted to do a visual album.”

Beyoncé wants some friendly competition!
According to the New York Daily News, Beyoncé will release a new single on December 3, the same day that Britney Spears’ new album will be released and just a few weeks after Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP is released.
A source told the paper that her plans to release a single on that date is no coincidence. That source said that the singer planned to release new music earlier in the year, but that she:
“kept pushing it back when she realized she wasn’t going to have any real competition on the charts. Then she got wind of the jam-packed fall release calendar and dreamed up her pop-world power move.”
The article also claims that Beyoncé recorded this single just a few weeks ago and that the accompanying music video will also be released on December 3. It also says the music video was directed by Terry Richardson and was filmed in Coney Island.
Beyonce followed her Super Bowl half time performance with an announcement that was sure to excite every Beyonce fan out there — a world tour!
The tour will begin on April 15 in Belgrade, Serbia and will come to the United States for 22 dates starting June 28 in Los Angeles. She will wrap the US portion of her tour on August 3 at her hubby Jay-Z’s Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Beyonce announced the tour, titled The Mrs. Carter Show, via a teaser video on her website. The Mrs. Carter Show will be her first major tour since 2009′s I AM … World Tour.
This tour is just one of many things keeping this singer busy. Sunday night she performed an eight-song set list during the Super Bowl half time show, which included a reunion of her former band Destiny’s Child. A documentary about the singer will also be airing on HBO on February 16 titled, Life Is But A Dream. She is also working on a new album, with collaborations including Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, Timbaland, and The-Dream.
There is no word yet on when tickets for The Mrs. Carter Show will go on sale. Check out the full list of US tour dates after the jump, as well as her performance from the Super Bowl!
Beyoncé hasn’t slowed down post Blue Ivy! The latest thing to be added to her list of accomplishments is snagging the cover of GQ’s “100 Sexiest Women of the 21st Century.”
On Wednesday, an Instagram photo of the cover was leaked, but the actual issue will be for their February issue. In the photo that leaked, Beyoncé leaves little to the imagination, wearing a little less than cropped girly jersey and leopard-print panties.
The jersey probably foreshadows Beyoncé’s upcoming Super Bowl half time show performance on February 3. She is also gearing up to release new music, her first album since 2011′s 4.
GQ will release all of the photos from the cover story on January 15.
The Dream, who is heavily involved in Beyoncé’s new music, hinted to Billboard that we will probably hear a few new tracks from her before her Super Bowl performance.
As if Beyonce wasn’t busy enough being a new mother and all, she is also working on two new projects slated for 2012 releases.
OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder told TheBoomBox that he is sending Beyonce songs about parenthood. He continued, revealing:
“The conversations about her next album literally just started and there [are] two projects happening. All I can say is you kind of feed her the best that you have and she’s this phenomenal filter and she takes it all in.”
There is no word on what Beyonce’s second project is, but Tedder assured fans that they would see a lot of Beyonce this year!
