In 2006 New York’s famous club CBGB closed it’s doors, but has continued to live on through the fashion that came out of it. Now, the first ever CBGB music festival will take place July 5-8 at venues all across the city.
The New York Times reports that the festival will be modeled after SXSW and CMJ, with film screenings, workshops and conferences, as well as concerts with more than 300 bands at 30 locations.
A new group of investors has also planned to reopen the club at a new downtown location. These investors recently purchased the CBGB assets to launch this upcoming festival. Investor Tim Hayes told The New York Times:
“We’re never going to recreate that moment in time. We’re trying to continue the idea of supporting live music, making a lot of noise and being a part of New York City. The festival is one way we can do it. Eventually the club will be another way we can do it.”
Bands scheduled to perform at the CBGB festival include the Cro-Mags, Vision of Disorder, Sick of it All, Guided by Voices, Cloud Nothings, and more.
Ticket options are now on sale on the CBGB website HERE! Combinations range from $69 for the music showcases to $299 for everything. Prices will be as high as $499 on the day of the show.
