Kanye West has had a long-standing partnership with Nike, but that has all come to a change due to his new deal with Adidas.
The rapper confirmed his partnership with Adidas in an interview with New York’s Hot 97 on Monday on Angie Martinez’ radio show.
West said in the interview:
“I took the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family.”
West referred to some comments he made at his November 24 Madison Square Garden show, where he said that Nike was not a good business partner and also confirming that he doesn’t receive royalties from Nike because he’s “not a professional athlete.”
“I’m gonna be the first hip-hop designer and because of that, I’m gonna be bigger than Wal-Mart.”
There is no set release date yet for West’s Red Octobers shoe line.
Kanye West postponed three dates of his Yeezus tour due to damaged equipment resulting from a truck accident that occurred on Wednesday.
A press statement from Island Def Jam details the accident, which occurred on the way to Vancouver and damaged a “custom-made video truss and 60-ft circular LED screen,” which was being used on the tour. The gear was wrecked beyond repair. Shows in Vancouver, Denver and Minneapolis have been rescheduled for October 31, November 1 and November 5, respectively.
The statement reads:
“This gear is central to the staging of The Yeezus Tour, and central to the creative vision put forth by Kanye West and his design team at DONDA. Kanye West will not compromise on bringing the show, as it was originally envisioned and designed, to his fans.”
The Yeezus tour began in early October in Seattle.
Kanye West proposed to longtime girlfriend Kim Kardashian on Monday in San Francisco.
E! was first to report the engagement, which occurred at the home of the San Francisco Giants, AT&T Park, completely rented out by West. Kardashian was supposedly expecting a birthday “surprise” there. Instead, on Kardashian’s 33rd birthday, West brought in a full orchestra and the stadium’s center field score board displayed: ”PLEEEASE MARRY MEEE!!!” A 50-piece orchestra were said to have played Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful” and Keri Hilson’s “Knock You Down.”
Several family members and friends of the pair were there to document the moment.
West gave Kardashian a 15-carat diamond ring, designed by Lorraine Schwartz. Of course, she said yes.
Kanye and Kim went public with their relationship last year and have a 4-month-old daughter, North. This will be West’s first marriage and Kardashian’s third.

Just weeks after Kanye West lashed out at Jimmy Kimmel on Twitter, the rapper has been confirmed as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday, October 9.
On September 26, West took to Twitter to lash out at a Jimmy Kimmel Live skit where Kimmel spoofed West’s interview with BBC Radio 1′s Zane Lowe.
“JIMMY KIMMEL IS OUT OF LINE TO TRY AND SPOOF IN ANY WAY THE FIRST PIECE OF HONEST MEDIA IN YEARS. JIMMY KIMMEL, I DON’T TAKE IT AS A JOKE…. YOU DON’T HAVE SCUM BAGS HOPPING OVER FENCES TRYING TO TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR DAUGHTER.”
Some have speculated that this feud is all an act for publicity reasons, but neither side has given up their act yet. Maybe on the show tonight? When the news broke of Kanye appearing on Kimmel, Kimmel tweeted:
“TOMORROW NIGHT, MY GUEST WILL BE ?@kanyewest? (for real, yes and was it all a setup, no).”

A photographer who claims he was attacked by Kanye West at Los Angeles International Airport sued the rapper on Wednesday, claiming assault, battery, negligence and violation of his civil rights.
The photographer, Daniel Ramos, claims his right hip was injured when the rapper punched him in an unprovoked attack and wrestled his camera to the ground.
“I told him twice, ‘I don’t want to fight you.’ However, he attacked me anyway.”
Last week, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office declined to file felony assault and attempted robbery charges against West, saying Ramos didn’t have a significant injury.
Kanye West hasn’t done a TV interview in years, but due to the fact that his baby mama’s mama has her own talk show he is making an exception.
Kanye will appear on Kris Jenner’s daytime talk show, Kris, on Friday.
According to Entertainment Weekly, West will speak about his girlfriend Kim Kardashian, fatherhood, his relationship with the media and President Obama’s critical comments on his “rich and famous” spotlight.
Kris airs on Fox stations in markets including New York, Los Angeles and Phoenix. If you don’t get Kris on a station near you, the show will also appear as full episodes on YouTube. West is also set for a performance on the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night.
Kanye West is the second performer announced for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, which will take place live on August 25 from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
Kanye will be performing his latest single off of Yeezus, “BLKKK SKKN HEAD.”
West has been known for leaving his mark behind on the VMA stage on more than one occasion. In 2010 he debuted his single “Runway” and in 2011 he performed “Otis” alongside JAY Z. However, his most memorable VMA moment was in 2009 at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall when he stormed the stage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech, cutting her off when she was presented with the award for Best Female Video.
Swift earned herself two nominations this year and via Twitter made a joke of the 2009 incident, saying:
“Two VMA nominations!! If you vote and get us one, I promise to keep a firmer grip on the mic this time ”
This year’s VMA performance will tie Kanye with Madonna for the most VMA performances.
Lady Gaga is the only other performer announced as of yet.
Are you excited to see what Kanye has in store for everyone this year??? Will Kim Kardashian make her first post-baby red carpet appearance???
Kanye West decided to really build the hype of his new album, Yeezus, by not releasing a single off of it before the album was actually released. It looks like he has decided it’s finally time to release a single!
West will be releasing “Black Skinhead” as the first single off of Yeezus. DJs will receive a clean version of the track for radio airplay and West will be releasing a music video to coincide with its radio release date, which will most likely be in time for July 4th.
Instead of releasing a single from Yeezus before the actual album’s release, West debuted “New Slaves” by video projection in 10 different cities, performed “Black Skinheads” on the season finale of Saturday Night Live and premiered an American Psycho-inspired clip (which featured Scott Disick and Jonathan Cheban) at his Los Angeles listening party.
