‘Sensation’ Coming to Brooklyn with Danny Tenaglia, Fedde le Grand, and More

The Dutch dance party Sensation will be hitting North America for the first time this fall!

Sensation will be hitting up Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on October 26-27 with a great lineup, including New York natives Dennis Ferrer and Danny Tenaglia. Tenaglia, although a DJ legend, will be making his first Sensation appearance at the New York show. Tenaglia exclusively told Billboard:

“I’m happy to welcome the Sensation crew to my hometown of New York, and to be a part of such a spectacle. That said, we’re going to rock it like a proper club night.”

Duncan Stutterheim, co-founder and CEO of the producer of the event couldn’t be more happy to snag Tenaglia. He said:

“I’m very proud of that. The man, the legend. When I was 20 I was queuing up to go to his events, and listening to all his sets from Ibiza to Miami. It’s special.”

Both nights at Barclays are centered around Fedde le Grand, one of the first hit makers of the EDM era. He’s played the most Sensations.

Check out the full lineup for both nights, in order, after the jump!

Mariah Carey and Gwen Stefani Will Kick-Off the NFL Season

No event would be complete without music — even football!

To kick-off this year’s NFL season Mariah Carey and Gwen Stefani along with No Doubt will be performing live from Rockefellar Center during the hour-long pregame show before the New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys game at MetLife Stadium on September 5.

According to the Huffington Post, the ladies both say they are very excited to be a part of this and Carey added that she hopes to make the event “even more festive.” I’m not sure what that means, but if anyone can do it, it sure is Mariah!

Are you excited for the NFL pregame show on September 5???

Mariano Rivera Tribute “Don’t Stop Relievin’”

In probably one of the best and most creative tribute parody videos I’ve seen, one huge Yankees fan took Journey’s ”Don’t Stop Believing” and turned it into one awesome tribute to Mariano Rivera.

Yankees fans were devastated to hear of Mariano’s season-ending ACL injury, but thanks to this fan his legacy will live on through this song.

This video comes from the Network of Champions. Being a favorite late night at the bar or karaoke tune, “Don’t Stop Believing” was the perfect choice of songs to sing.

Yankees fan or not, you can’t deny the greatness of this!

CBGB Music Festival & Conference Coming to New York

In 2006 New York’s famous club CBGB closed it’s doors, but has continued to live on through the fashion that came out of it. Now, the first ever CBGB music festival will take place July 5-8 at venues all across the city.

The New York Times reports that the festival will be modeled after SXSW and CMJ, with film screenings, workshops and conferences, as well as concerts with more than 300 bands at 30 locations.

A new group of investors has also planned to reopen the club at a new downtown location. These investors recently purchased the CBGB assets to launch this upcoming festival. Investor Tim Hayes told The New York Times:

“We’re never going to recreate that moment in time. We’re trying to continue the idea of supporting live music, making a lot of noise and being a part of New York City. The festival is one way we can do it. Eventually the club will be another way we can do it.”

Bands scheduled to perform at the CBGB festival include the Cro-Mags, Vision of Disorder, Sick of it All, Guided by Voices, Cloud Nothings, and more.

Ticket options are now on sale on the CBGB website HERE! Combinations range from $69 for the music showcases to $299 for everything. Prices will be as high as $499 on the day of the show.

Could NYC’s Catalpa Festival Become the East Coast Coachella?

It seems like there are destination music festivals all over the United States, but one of the most popular cities in the nation is missing from that list — New York City! But, that could change very soon…

California has Coachella, Tennessee has Bonnaroo, and Chicago has Lollapalooza. This summer will mark the very fist Catalpa Festival in the New York City area. The Catalpa Festival, which will be held on Randall’s Island on July 28th-29th, has just been announced and so far the list of artists performing includes the Black Keys, TV on the Radio, Snoop Dogg, City and Colour, Umphrey’s McGee, The Big Pink, AraabMuzik, Felix Da Housecat, and Fort Atlantic. More artists are expected to be announced soon.

This summer will bring back Governors Ball to New York once again and Metallica will host their Orion Festival in Atlantic City (last year was San Francisco), so what makes Catalpa more of a sure “east cost Coachella-type???”

The event will also feature a “Taste of New York” with food from some of the city’s best eateries, Art Installations, a Silent Disco Tent, and a structure built by Arcadia (a sculpture-based organization that takes military scraps and turns them into “positive environments for the purpose of celebrating life”).

The most creative part of this festival (and one of my favorites) is the Church of Sham Marriages. An inflatable church will be available for anyone who wants to have an impromptu fake wedding with the “pimp or pastor.” For those who want to get married for real, that option is available too.

The festival is produced by Dublin production company Frisky. Early bird weekend passes are available now for $99. A ferry pass is available for $35. Shuttle and parking options are also available. To find out more about the Catalpa Festival click HERE.

Do you think the east coast will get their very own Coachella???

Does Yankee Stadium Have Another Hit Song On Their Hands?

I love days when I get to write about the two things I love most: music and the Yankees (and I never get to combine the two). For all of us New-Yorkers (more specifically Yankees fans), there are those few songs that we know we will be hearing when we’re at the stadium to catch a game. Those songs don’t only become staples in the stadium, but anthems of the state of New York. The most recent song to take that title would be Jay-Z & Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind”. And of course when that game ends and the Yankees win Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” is always blared through the speakers.

This morning on my drive to work I heard a new B.o.B ft. Bobby Ray song, a cover of Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York”. Could this be this year’s new “New York anthem”? It’s hard to say. This version is very different from Frank Sinatra’s version (minus the chorus). The rapping added to this song is all about crumbling buildings, destruction, and being under attack. It’s very fitting to be the theme of ‘Crysis 2′, a game set in New York City revolving around New York being under attack in the year 2023. I don’t think we’ll be hearing this song as much as “Empire State of Mind”. If anything maybe we’ll hear the chorus of this song being played in between innings, but I think people would rather hear a song praising New York, rather than the destruction of it (I know I would!)

All in all this song is still great. B.o.B’s talent shines through with his lyrics and rapping. You can find this song on the trailer to ‘Crysis 2′, which came out on March 21, 2011.

Looks like “Empire State of Mind” will still be continuously replayed in our heads for a little while longer! That’s okay, it’s a great song, but I wouldn’t mind a new New York anthem to hit the scene soon!

Take a listen to B.o.B’s remake of “New York, New York”
