Last night’s Academy of Country Music Awards hosted their very first on stage wedding, which truthfully looked more like a theatrical production than a wedding ceremony.
This televised wedding ceremony was thought-up by country singer Martina McBride, who serenaded them along with Train’s Pat Monahan, while the ceremony went on. They appropriately sang the song “Marry Me.”
Christina Davidson and Frank Tucci were the lucky couple who was picked to wed on the awards show and their story is so touching. The couple met at a support group Davidson started for young widows and widowers following the death of her husband in a drowning accident in 2009. Tucci lost his wife to thyroid cancer that same year and joined Davidson’s group.
I for one hope they have a more traditional wedding ceremony than the one we saw last night. For such a touching story, it should be celebrated with family, friends, and loved ones, rather than on a stage in front of America and the country music world in Las Vegas. It was a bit bizarre and out-of-place and pretty tacky if you ask me.
